About this property

Welcome to Aston Mahana at Kaanapali

Aston Mahana at Kaanapali is a beachfront hotel and condominium complex located on Honokowai Point in Lahaina, Hawaii. The property offers bright, air-conditioned units each equipped with a full kitchen and a balcony, providing guests with the convenience of self-catering and views of the ocean or landscaped gardens. Facilities include an outdoor pool and a hot tub, while on-site amenities focus on essentials like free Wi-Fi and paid parking, without on-site dining or a fitness center.

Set just steps from the beach and the Kaanapali coastal trail, the location offers easy access to nearby attractions such as Whalers Village shopping center, about 2 miles away, and several well-regarded beaches including Kaanapali Beach and Kapalua Bay Beach, both popular for swimming and snorkeling. The Lahaina area also provides dining options and a variety of local activities within walking distance, noted positively by guests for convenience and proximity.

The accommodation attracts visitors seeking a relaxed, beach-oriented stay with family-friendly features and accessible design. While some reviews highlight the cleanliness and ocean views, others mention that furnishings and kitchen equipment can be dated or basic, reflecting a property with older elements alongside well-maintained public areas. Feedback suggests the absence of on-site restaurants may require guests to plan dining elsewhere, though discounts are available at nearby beach clubs.

Check-in is from 4:00 PM, and check-out is at 11:00 AM, fitting standard travel schedules. The hotel’s setting suits visitors who appreciate direct beach access and self-catering accommodations, as well as those interested in exploring the wider Maui coastline by car, with Kahului Airport approximately a 50-minute drive away. Overall, Aston Mahana at Kaanapali suits travelers prioritizing location and oceanfront scenery over resort-style amenities.

We stayed here for 5 nights and 6 days. This place is an apartment building. We stayed in apartment No. 601, which is a 2BHK apartment. The apartment was very clean and neat though a little old. Facilities required for a comfortable stay are available. 601 is a corner apartment abutting the sea with breathtaking views of the ocean. The kitchen however was rather basic with very few utensils. The built in microwave was not functional and hence an alternate one was placed on the kitchen slab. The exhaust was not working and it made the cooking hazardous. The WiFi quality was poor and accessing even WhatsApp without interruption was not possible. If anyone has plans to work remotely from here it is not possible. Being vegetarians we had plans to use the kitchen extensively but was not possible due to above constraints. But for these irritants, we had a good time here. The swimming pool and the spa are well maintained and the place appears to be frequented by senior citizens and families and one feels at home here. The staff at the reception were very polite and eager to help.

My husband & I stayed here September 28 to October 4th for our honeymoon. We booked a Studio Premium Oceanfront. When we arrived, we were told we were upgraded to a 1 bedroom unit. The 1 bedroom unit was bigger than the studio would've been, but I am not sure if it was a premium unit as the furniture, TV & bedding was very outdate. If it was a regular 1 bedroom unit, I believe it would have costed the same price as the studio premium unit, meaning not really an upgrade. But enough about that. Overall, our stay was positive. You cannot beat the oceanfront views! We were on the 2nd floor of the Lahiani Tower. Here are our thoughts on the hotel: PROS: - the view! - the location (super close walk to the beach, close & within walking walking distance to some restaurants and a food truck park, maybe 20 minute drive to Kapalua Ziplines, etc) - there are free towels that you can use at the pool and/or beach - the shower in the unit was huge - there is a DVD rental machine. You get a free rental with a card given to you at check-in - concierge service to help with planning & booking excursions - discount at Beach Club (see below) CONS: - no restaurants or food options (vending machines or a small shop) on site. You do get a discount at Beach Club (as noted above), but the food & service are not anything special (the food would be overpriced if it wasnt for the discount) - the first few days of our stay, I received DAILY texts (sometimes more than one) from the property. It seemed a little excessive - the DVD remote in our unit was missing. We had to wait until normal hours for maintenance to be brought another remote - we did not mind that you do not get daily housekeeping, but one time housekeeping entered the unit & only emptied the kitchen garbage & not the one in the bedroom We had no issues with parking. We did not use the pool or hot tub, so I cannot speak on that. FYI: when driving to the property, the sign says Mahana & does not say “Aston” in case that confuses anyone Overall, I would recommend this location and would consider staying again if we stay in Ka'anapali the next time we go to Maui.

The Mahana is a great spot to stay in Kaanapali. At the north end of the Kaanapali shoreline with direct access to the Kaanapali coastal trail. Just a few minutes walk to Times market and the food trucks or if you’d like a nice oceanfront restaurant you have Duke’s just a few minutes walk. Great whale watching location as well!

My family and I stayed here for 6 days and 5 nights. I have been to Maui a couple times before and I have to say this was the nicest place that we’ve stayed. We booked a premium ocean front room through Costco travel and originally we were put on the 1st floor. The view of the ocean was right there and the room was nice, but, we didn’t completely like the idea of being ground floor with people just outside our back patio area. I asked the front desk if they had anything else higher up, told them it wasn’t a huge deal but would be nice. Their system was down when I asked and they said they’d give me a call once they had access to look. Within 10 minutes or less, they called the room we were in and told me they could move us to the 10th floor. AMAZING room. We saw whales and turtles EVERY DAY. We also saw sting ray occasionally and even a pod of dolphins went by one morning. The staff was extremely professional, kind and accommodating. The room was very nice and taken care of. The hotel is also very close to a lot of good food and coffee choices as well as good beaches. When we visit again, this will be my first choice. Mahalo!!

Stayed here for 5 nights via Costco Travel and it was absolutely fantastic! You cannot beat the view from the oceanfront rooms. We saw turtles, seals (super lucky to see since they are endangered) and dolphins from our balcony. All the staff was very nice and helpful. The only negative is the bathroom in our unit needed an upgrade. I would definitely stay again. Also note for those wanting to do Road to Hana or Haleakalā this hotel is well over an hour from each. We had to leave at 2:30am to do the Haleakalā sunrise. And the start of Road of Hana is about 1.5 hours.

We didn’t have high expectations when we booked, as the price was reasonable and we thought the building might be a bit older. However, from the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. A very kind lady with black glasses warmly welcomed us and even offered wine and chocolates. Our 9th-floor corner room was beautifully upgraded, with ocean views in every direction, and we were delighted to receive a spacious two-bedroom suite instead of the one-bedroom we booked. We had an unforgettable 5-day stay and will definitely return to Aston Mahana on our next trip to Maui.
Special thanks to the kind lady with black glasses for making our stay so memorable.

We may have had the best trip ever at Mahana. The oceanfront room brought a whole new level of serenity. The suite had everything we needed, we could cook, do laundry, and feel right at home. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

This is our third stay at the Mahana via private party rentals. We love this (Honokowai) area for the boardwalk, grocery store, food truck lot (15+!) restaurants, gift shop - ALL right across the street (practically). We love the view. We love the pool & hot tub. We love that there is so much to see & do North or South of this area. However I would like to mention how I cannot believe how many people WALK ON THE CORAL REEF BAREFOOT from the beach in front of the Mahana! If they're coming out from the pool there's a sign that says it's a coral reef and EVERY brochure/unit information MOST LIKELY mentions NOT to walk on the coral! We have seen people come out of the ocean barefoot with a bloody foot/bad cut (hurrah there's a clinic at strip mall across the street). Walk to the south side of the Mahana where you will see other people swimming. If no one is in the water in front of Mahana swimming that's a CLEAR sign. You CAN snorkel in front- lava tubes, some fish, Hona eating over coral- just PLEASE get in the water from the south side and DON'T stand on the coral reef! Boogie boarding not a problem if you surf in to sandy area. MAHALO and enjoy your stay!
